The Weigh-In: GoDaddy vs HostGator Overview

HostGator is a leading global provider of Shared, Reseller, VPS, and Dedicated web hosting. HostGator was found in 2002 and has been known for their reliability as well as their best in class service and support since their inception. On the other hand, you have GoDaddy who has built their enviable reputation on domain registration and domain services. They are currently the leading domain registrar in the world. So while both companies may have taken different paths to be where they are, both companies rank in the top tier in overall web hosting. However, in this report featuring godaddy vs hostgator, we'll take a look at who can truly say that they are the best.

From a performance perspective, we have provided detailed analysis for the three critical areas in web hosting performance. the specific areas that we looked at includes speed, response and benchmark figures. We've also included graphs to provide a visual aid. So lets take a look at which company reigns supreme in performance.

During our speed test, we used three independent high ranking sites derived from serp data calculated via AHREFS. For each test site we used both HostGator and GoDaddy on three separate occasions and used the average score to determine which company is superior in speed.

The debate of godaddy vs hostgator isn’t really a battle when it comes to speed. HostGator thoroughly dominated GoDaddy in this area big time. For example, in regards to speed, GoDaddy averaged out at 2.95 site loading speed. On the other hand, HostGator performed much better, averaging out at a fast 1.54. That number is nearly two times faster than GoDaddy.

In regards to web hosting as a whole, that is a big difference and one that definitely gives HostGator the early edge in performance. Let’s take a look at response time.

  • HostGator
  • GoDaddy

The hostgator vs godaddy debate continues as we look at server response time. Unfortunately for GoDaddy, they did not fare too well in this particular area. GoDaddy produced a time almost double of their rivals.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with server response time, server response time is the amount of time it take to load HTML related documents. The longer that it takes to load an HTML document the longer the process for your site to start rendering the page. All of this take us precious seconds which could ultimately affect your traffic as well as your profits.

So again, in the debate pertaining to server load performance between godaddy vs HostGator, HostGator dominates again. In addition to speed and response time, we tested both sites on benchmark performance. Lets see who wins.

  • HostGator
  • GoDaddy

Benchmark results is a generalized way of testing just how reliable and fast your web hosting provider is. In addition to checking reliability, collecting benchmarking results for how fast a web host is performing in certain settings.

For this particular test we utilized the GTMetrix Benchmark test to test out the three sites that we used to measure on the two previous performance categories.

The results were glaringly the same. HostGator thoroughly dominated GoDaddy again with a performance rating nearly two times faster. Based on all three performance tests, I think that we have a clear winner in performance.

HostGator Web Hosting Company is offering amazing discounts for their shared web hosting service packages. These deals are for a limited time only.Click button below to access plans and services.

In regards to actual pricing, the cheapest plan for HostGator for their shared web hosting services start at $2.75 per month with the 60% off promo. On the other hand, the Economy plan for GoDaddy is priced at $4.99 per month. Both offer similar features, but the 60% off promotion is what gives HostGator the clear advantage here. You can actually get the HostGator premium web hosting plan for as little as $5.95 per month which would include unlimite domains, one click installs, FREE SSL certificate and a free dedicated IP.
Overall, I like the value proposition better with HostGator. Firstly, the user interface and dashboard provides a much more professional experience. The GoDaddy UI is very generic and basic and can be hard to navigate.
Secondly, just like many other webmasters, we are comfortable with cPanel. cPanel is extremely easy to use and has become the go-to platform for most web hosting providers. GoDaddy does have a solid backend platform as well but it will take time and a little expertise to get accustomed to it.
As the world's leader in domain registration and services, this is definitely one area where GoDaddy excels at especially during their promo periods where they offer .com, .net, .online and others at a low price of 99 cents for the first year. That is extremely good value.
Overall, when you are looking at pricing, you have to factor in everything and because of that I give HostGator the edge in this area.
